A Word from Kim Johnson
My name is Kim Johnson. I am a 66-year-old photographer and have lived and worked in Greendale since 1950. I have been seriously involved in photography since 1963, when I began attending Layton School of Art’s Professional Photography course. This course provided instruction in good fundamental photography, introducing all of the specialty branches of photography: portrait, wedding, commercial, industrial, fashion, advertising, photojournalism, medical, architectural and landscape and fine art. I graduated from Layton School of Art in 1965 at the outset of the Vietnam War. My military service obligation had yet to be met, so I enlisted in the Navy and spent four years as a photographer’s mate. This served as excellent practical photographic experience, experience that is still useful today.
In 1970, I resumed civilian life and began my career as a portrait, wedding and event photographer. In 1984, I began operating as A Positive Image, the name chosen to reflect my intent to provide excellent portraits that show the subject to best advantage. In 1992, I added wedding and event video to the services I offer. In 2006, I switched to using digital cameras and printing with inkjet printers, which has the effect of making everything fresh and new. I have had an interesting and challenging 47-year career.
